I have a 2009 BMW X5 XDrive 48i and the stock H8 Angel Eye bulbs are bright even during daytime, but yellow. Be aware of the following for LED Angel Eye replacements -- they won't be as bright as the new BMW LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) refreshed models ~2010+, the LEDs can be bright at night, but not so much in the daytime, the outer ring won't light up as much as the inner ring (but this is true even with stock bulbs), some LED kits will flicker when starting the car due to the CAN bus system check, nearly all of these types of kits include extra modules to prevent errors in the iDrive info screen, most kits are only compatible if you have OEM HIDs factory option, and lastly, most of the good sets are crazy expensive.

ON TO THE REVIEW:
These came in a nice jewelry-like black cardboard box with a magnetic flap that some people at work mistook for a new watch. At 20 watts, they are the brightest kit available at a decent price. Installation was pretty straightforward, but it was a bit tight trying to remove the harness plug from the old bulbs (you need three hands, one to release each side clip and one to pull the harness plug out) and even plugging it back in to the new LED bulb wiring was a bit tricky. Twisting the old or new bulb in or out was pretty easy though. I had to shove all the modules and wiring into any open space inside the headlight housing, so I hope they don't rattle around and break or anything.

As the pictures I have posted show, they are a big improvement in the color department (bluish white), but they do get washed out a bit in the daytime, possibly due to the color temperature being closer to natural sunlight. However, side-by-side, the stock halogens threw more light onto my white washer and dryer so I'm guessing the LEDs really aren't as bright, color temperature aside. When the main headlights are on, I really like how the LEDs blend in with the HIDs now and everything just looks a lot newer.

These do not fade on or off like the white LEDs in my door handles, but I don't recall if the stock bulbs did either, so it could be my car or some "coming home" lighting feature I turned off. I'll check into this and update. They also don't flicker at startup like some people warned, just turning on with no fuss, and I did not get any errors or codes at all. Being LEDs, they do have a refresh rate (60Hz?) that some may notice as flicker when glancing away from.

I gave four stars because in order to get 5 stars, these would have to be cheaper, be brighter than stock under all conditions, perhaps as bright as LCI Angel Eyes, and the bulbs should have no extra cabling or modules to stuff inside the housing. It's probably not possible, but that's what it would take. Overall, I'm pleased and recommend them to anyone who understands the compromises made to get LEDs to work with the finicky BMW Angel Eyes setup. I know this review got pretty long, but if you're considering spending $149 on bulbs, I'm sure you'd appreciate it, unless you fell asleep halfway through.

UPDATE (03-19-2013): I turned my car on without turning on the engine and I did notice the LED lights flashing in the reflection on my washer/dryer so they do flash during the CAN bus check. No problems with them at all. I can also confirm that you can see them in direct sunlight and that they are definitely not as bright the LCI ones on newer cars.
