If you want a top rain tire, that will stick to the road no matter how much rain is falling and how fast you are driving, and you don't care about tire noise and treadwear, then this is the tire to get.I've had these tires on my 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, my daughter's 2002 Audi A4, and my wife's 1999 Volvo V70 wagon and we all love them. We rotate, balance and align every five thousand miles, which is less than the recommended 6000 mile maintenance. On the van, I've noticed that I'm getting good use out of them with not a lot of excessive wear yet.
On the Volvo, we've got 37,000 miles on them and they are bald on the edges already, and quickly getting near the wear bars. This has happened despite proper inflation and consistent maintenance. My wife only uses this car to drive to and from work, which is only a ten minute drive in town. We've taken two holiday trips and put several thousand miles on them at highway speeds. That should not account for the excessive wear.
I took them back to where we got them from, Tire Kingdom, and asked about the 90K mile treadwear warranty. They said sorry, but because you can't show receipts for rotation and alignment every so many miles, they won't do anything for you (we had had them balanced and rotated on the road and can't produce the receipt).
So be warned, these are GREAT tires for rain. You will be very safe with them on your vehicle. But many customers on other major tire websites are reporting only thirty to forty thousand miles of treadwear and that Michelin will not honor it's 90K treadwear warranty if you can't prove you had them rotated, balanced and aligned religiously. They'll claim it's the car that is wearing them out and not the fault of the tire.
Again, even though they are very expensive, we love the tire. Firm ride, incredible grip to the road even in heavy downpours, noise not too loud, looks great, etc. But beware of excessive treadwear and a warranty that is hard to collect on. That is why I'm giving them three out of five stars, for excessive treadwear where there has been gentle driving for short distance on a car that is meticulously maintained.
I'm now going to get new tires and after extensive research, will consider Hankook Optimo H727 (a CR top choice) P195/60R15 Hankook Optimo H727 Tires (Quantity: 1), Yokohama Avid Envigor [H&V] 195/60R15 Yokohama AVID ENVigor Tires (Quantity: 1) (which got a 9.05 out of 10 in customer reviews at the top online tire website), and Sumitomo HTR A/S PO1 (though I probably will not choose such a cheap tire since you do get what you pay for), all top rated rain tires at much lower prices.
