6.2 Inch 2 Din Car DVD Player for Universal Car,DVD+Analog TV+BT+Game+GPS+PIP+Rear Review+IPOD+Touch screen Function Review
I have been playing with this radio on the bench for a little over a week now. I think I have discovered all the pros and cons that are of concern to me. I currently own 3 Chinese Double Din DVD GPS import radios. Of the 3 this unit has become my favorite. Unfortunately it is not without issues but then again nothing is perfect. I have been looking for a unit to replace the first radio I purchased almost 2 years ago. I think this radio will fit the bill. I have been looking for some time both here on Amazon and eBay. I have seen this radio advertized for as much as $150.00 more than the current price here offered by Puredeals. Even though Puredeals did not have any customer feedback and this radio did not have any reviews I thought I would take a chance. I knew I was protected by Amazon's return policy and I felt Puredeals deserved a chance so I placed an order. After I placed the order I contacted Puredeals to see if could get faster shipping which was arranged and I wished him good luck as a new seller on Amazon. In his response he told me he was not a new dealer it was just no one has ever left any feedback or reviews. So I said to myself I would leave feedback and a review either good or bad all depending on the product and the service. So far I have not been disappointed with either. Now let me tell you about the radio.Pros:
*Customer service from Puredeals has been outstanding. The shipping was fast and the response to email communications has been quick and courteous. Every question and request was dealt with in a professional manor. Cannot say enough, deal with confidence.
*GPS is the same as most of the import radios running the WinCE-6 platform. This unit came with IGO- 8 witch I prefer over the commonly supplied Syric. The GPS loads in a reasonable amount of time.
*The clock and calendar is updated by the GPS and kept accurate. There is a boot up issue where the date and time is lost for the radio and setup screens when the key is switched off. However the date and time is quickly refreshed once the unit and GPS has completed booting up.
*The DVD works as expected. I have only tested DVD's both commercial and homemade. All play fine.
*SD card reader: Only tested using MP3 files and works very well. Out of the 3 units I currently own this is the only unit that shows all the information about the song. I was pleased and surprised!
*Bluetooth. Only tested the phone portion and had no problems paring with my Android Razr Maxx. I can place and receive calls as expected. Call quality was good but would like to have had a mic that was separate from the head unit so it could be placed closer to the driver. Out of the 3 units I own this is the only unit that would load my contact list into phonebook and work. Only problem is I have a large contact list and the unit has a limited amount of contacts it can hold. This is not a big for me, I do not use this feature. It is faster to use the phone when dialing.
*Backup camera works as expected. Also the unit switches quickly to display the backup camera even while the unit is booting. Video quality is good.
*Touch screen is responsive and works well.
*I just found this out the hard way. The radio is sitting on my work bench with power applied to the radio but the radio had been switched off using the power button on the radio. The radio is off and the screen is dark. However the Bluetooth is still activated. I attempted to place a call on my phone while away from my workbench. I could not hear the person and they could not hear me. Then I saw the Bluetooth icon on my phone so I went to the dark radio and place a call. Sure enough the radio came to life and I could hear and talk to the person at the other end using the radios Bluetooth. This means if you are driving along and have the radio switched off and a call comes in, the hand free function is still operating. At first I was going to list this a con, however, I now believe it is a great feature!
*This radio has a GMC logo. Not a big deal but I am installing this radio in my 1999 GMC Yukon.
*Universal Standard Color Code for the wiring harness. Also all wires are labeled and there is a wiring label on the top of the radio. All this makes for an easy installation.
Cons:
*Some of the memory storage does not work quite right while others work perfectly.
1. The clock does not retain the correct date or time. However this is quickly updated by the GPS and is not a big issue just a minor inconvenience.
2. When programming the radio presets the button windows do not always show the correct station information just stored. Meaning, if you select band FM1 and wanted to store the 100.3 MHz in the position #3 and position #3 is currently showing 94.5 MHz when you press and hold the button to be programmed and the button will display 100.3 but, when you program the next button (#4) the button previously program button (#3) switches from 100.3 back to 94.5 however if you were to press #3 the main display will show 100.3 even though the button says 94.5. This is very confusing, however if you do all your station programming and do not pay any attention to the information displayed in the buttons then cycle through the bands or cycle power the correct channel information will appear in the correct button. This is clearly a software issue and a bit confusing but only while programming. The radio will remember all the stored stations in the correct locations when power cycled from this point on.
3. The last memory issue is also a bit confusing. Let's say you were listening to position #3 (on any band) and you switched off the key for whatever reason. Then when you start the car back up and the radio finishes booting the display will show whatever is programmed into position #1 but will be playing the station programmed into position #3. You can correct the display by pressing any other button. I have programmed the station I listen to the most into position #1. That way the radio has a greater chance of displaying the correct frequency when first powered up. Again a software issue. This is my main complaint! I hope it can be corrected with a software update someday.
*Cannot place a "voice call" using the Bluetooth. None of my other import radio allow voice dialing either. This would be a great feature!
Not tested:
*Analog TV: I did not bother to test this feature. Analog TV is no longer available where I live. I would never use this feature anyway.
*PIP (Picture in Picture): I was unable to locate this feature, it is likely located in a menu buried somewhere in with the GPS. I have tested this feature with my other 2 units and from experience I would never use PIP so I didn't spent any more time other than a quick look.
*Steering Wheel Control: All the necessary wires are there to tie into the CAN bus but my old car does not have controls on the steering wheel. I have no way to test.
*IPOD: I do not own an IPAD so I had no way of testing. However the cable supplied had the larger connector that interfaces with the older IPOD's only.
*RDS: Unable to locate a menu to control the RDS. I tuned to a station that has an RDS signal and verified it was being transmitted using a the radio in my Nissan Leaf. The radio in the Leaf did display the RDS signal with no problem. However the import radio did not show any information. This is common with these imports. None of the other 2 units I own will display any of the RDS information either. This may be due to the fact the US uses a different protocol than anywhere else in the world. Lucky us in the USA!
Technical:
*DC Operating Voltage: 12VDC
*Nominal Operating Current: Approximately 1 amp depending on the volume setting.
*Standby Current: Slightly greater than 10mA (0.01 amps) This is a low standby current about 1/2 of the other import radios I have tested. Still this amount of current can drain a battery if the car is not driven for an extended period of time.
So all in all I am quite please with the radio. I would have given it a 5 if it did not have the memory issues. I give Puredeals a 5! Only thing left is to see how long it works without any serious issues.
