Rockhard Motorhead Helmet - X-Large/Motorhead Motorizer Review
I recently purchased the Rockhard Mot rhead Motorizer full face helmet. It arrived in the mail on Wednesday and I was able to put it through a suitable ride on Friday afternoon.Features: Removable padding, independent closable vents, SNELL M2005 and DOT approved
The Good: Lightweight, good ventilation
The Bad: Cheek pads and padding may take some getting used to.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this helmet. The ventilation is good, graphics are great, and if you look around you can find them at a reasonable price.
I ran this helmet through the gauntlet. I rode on rural back roads, 4 lane highway and downtown Friday afternoon city traffic.
Pre-Ride: I got the helmet on Wednesday opened the package. The helmet is attractively boxed in cardboard printed to look like a rode case. It comes with a manual, certificate of authenticity and a cloth bag for storage. The decals are crisp and well detailed. It appears that they are applied to the helmet and then the helmet is clear coated, which hopefully means they'll last as long as it looks like they should. I opened it up and tried it on, and at first thought it was a little snug, but I have been wearing a half helmet for the past couple of years. Because of the snug fit of the helmet, I would recommend using the manufacturer's (Rockhard/O'neal) sizing chart and possibly physically trying one or two on to make sure you order the proper size. After a few times of putting in on and taking it off; I was able to figure out how to get my fat head in there without it being uncomfortable. After a couple of days of riding, I don't have any issues with the fit, and have gotten used to the extra padding as opposed to that of my half helmet. I imagine that the type of padding in this helmet is similar to other higher end helmets that meet Snell standards. This particular helmet meets Snell M2005 standards, but future helmets from this line should meet M2010 standards as my understanding is that Snell stopped certifying with M2005 guidelines in late 2012.
Morning Ride: I took the helmet out on my 2009 Honda Rebel for my morning commute to work. It is a combination of 4 lane highway and rural back roads until I get near my work, when it becomes more suburban. The temperature was just a shade under 70 degrees. I kept the top vents of the helmet closed and opened the bottom mouthpiece vent to keep fogging down. I had no issues with fogging, even when I tried to make it happen by breathing heavy. The helmet is lightweight and I didn't notice any fatigue from wearing it from the 20 minute ride.
Afternoon Ride: This is where the helmet really was put to the test. Me, the helmet and the Rebel went out after a full day's work for a full day's pay to run some errands. I took the Rebel through the back roads, on the highway and into the city to pay some bills. The temperature was easily over 100 degrees including the heat index with some sticky east central Mississippi humidity. I had the vents open and again, had no issues with ventilation or overheating. I did notice some wind buffeting, but this may be due to the fact that there is more wind exposure with the full face as opposed to my half helmet. The visor allows ample visibility, and even on the longer ride, its weight was not an issue.
The helmet has my recommendation, and if you look around at various sellers you should be able to find one under $200 dollars. I did.
