Product Description

CIPA's Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compass and Map Lights provides the perfect solution to annoying headlight glare at night. Sensors on the mirror indicate when bright lights are used and dim the mirror glass for comfort and safety. The Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror also offers a disable button for when dimming is unwanted. Additional features include a digital compass and dual map lights. The electronic compass features a bright integrated LED digital display and is self-calibrating. The dual map lights will provide that extra bit of light just where you need it. First time installations will require routing a power wire. Vehicles with an existing auto dimming mirror and a 7 pin connector can plug directly in with no fuss, otherwise the wires can be tapped using the wire tap provided. Mirror is 10 inches long by 2.5 inches tall, and is a wedge base mounting rearview mirror. This kit includes a new mirror assembly, 6.5 foot power wire harness, wire tap, 5 wire ties, wedge button, and an installation guide. Mirror mounting epoxy is not included. Hint: a camlock mount mirror is commonly found on imported vehicles and is removed by turning the mirror 90 degrees, so it is perpendicular to the dash, then pulling down on the mirror. A wedge mount mirror is commonly found on domestic vehicles and is removed by loosening a small screw or clip and pushing the mirror up toward the roof. CIPA 36300 Wedge Base Auto Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compass and Map Light Review

This CIPA 36300 mirror (made by Magna Donnelly) is a direct replacement for a previous CIPA 36300 that I had purchased in 2007 from a different vendor (that mirror was old stock and was made in 2002). As I found out earlier this year (much to my disappointment), that old design used a liquid gel medium sealed between two layers of glass ... this was the electronic medium for the auto-dimming function. Over time, this gel disolved the seal around the edges of the two layers of glass and let air enter, thus destroying both the clear vision in the mirror and the auto-dimming capability (result looked like a flat panel lava lamp with air bubbles sliding around under the glass). This new mirror purchased on Amazon is of the latest design (mfr date Aug 2012), using a Solid Polymer Matrix (SPM) material for the dimming function (it can't leak). I am very pleased with this new mirror. It works perfectly (dimming, compass, twin map lights). The $145 price paid (free shipping) was $50 less than what I paid for the old design mirror back in 2007. I would highly recommend this product. Note: Mfg date can be determined by the first two characters of the code stamped on the mirror housing: 1st digit is the year of manufacture; second character is the month ... A=Jan, B=Feb, C=Mar, M=Dec, the letter I is not used. All Magna Donnelly mirrors manufactured after 2005 use the SPM technology.
