I just installed the Timbren overload springs/cushions on my 2009 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. My Tacoma has the 4-leaf spring packs on the rear (due to the Toyota Service Bulletin), but I still noticed that when carrying a heavy load of damp compost, I was getting some rear end sag. That's why I put on the Timbrens. I have not yet carried a heavy load, but I suspect the Timbrens will prevent any sag. They sit approximately 1.5" below the frame.

In normal unloaded driving, the frame does not contact the Timbren cushions at all, so you don't notice them. When I hit a sharp bump, they do contact the frame and it is indeed felt in the cab. It is a definite "whack" rather than the soft feel of the stock springs. The Timbrens are quite solid feeling. I think they will work quite well. I'm giving a rating of "4 stars" because Timbrens by nature are not progressive like a real spring. They are very firm the second the frame hits them, unlike a leaf-type overload spring that might be a little softer at first contact, and then stiffen as they take on a load. I would prefer some custom overload springs as I've had in the past, but they are hard to come by these days and few people can make them for you. The Timbrens are a good compromise I think, if you don't need them to be working all the time. I suspect they're going to be quite stiff when a heavy load is sitting on them.

Installation was extremely easy and fast. I did NOT follow the generic directions with the Timbrens. I did not let the axle hang free when removing the stock bump stops. I don't think you want to do that, because the axle on a Tacoma sits BELOW the spring pack, not above it. I didn't jack the truck up or remove any wheels at all... simply crawl under the truck, loosen the "U" bolts that hold the spring packs to the axles, slide out the old bump stops and put in the new ones. Tighten the bolts down to 75 ft/lbs and you're good to go. Took about a half hour, tops. Hint: squirt some WD-40 or something on the bolts the night before you do it. Much easier.
