The instructions were OK, since it's not easy trying to adapt the same hitch to both sedan and wagon bodies. I finally figured out which of many holes to use, and everything went in as intended. A torque wrench was very useful, and I was able to install it myself using a floor jack and a collection of scrap lumber. The hardest part, really, was getting the rubber exhaust hangers off the hooks under the Outback.

With the 2" receiver, my Outback can now mount the largest bike rack that Thule makes, and I can tow any U-Haul trailer that meets the Outback's tow capacity.
